Girls, ladies - grab your tissue box because this hits home for a lot of girls.
Surrounded in a room full of beautiful people inside and out, you can just feel the presence of positive and loving vibes floating in the airways. You, yourself, look beautiful inside and out, so the night is just filled with possibilities of magic awaiting to happen. You’re ready to take on the night with power and grace! As you pass a mirror, you look deep into your soul and immediately - your spirit is now dampened. You have allowed insecurity to creep in and take over your entire mood. Where is your self-love?
Love. What is love? Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8.
It is so important to love yourself.
People will forever have their own opinion, perceptions, and assumptions about you - but none of that matters if you do not love yourself.
How can you expect to love other people when you do not love yourself? Here are some of my important key factors to Self-Love:
We are our biggest critics and tend to place the most intense expectations on ourselves because we always expect more. When we make mistakes, we beat ourselves up. When we do not reach a goal or expectation, we think we are worthless. When we fight the same battle over and over again, we want to give up. Forgive yourself for the mistakes you made. You are fearfully and wonderfully made, so try again. God's grace granted us unlimited opportunities to get it right. Like my friend said before "God does not have an expiration date for your blessings". Forgive yourself, let go, and let God.
Your heart is pure gold. You cannot allow any and everyone to enter into the gates of your heart. Although you hold the key to your own heart, everyone is not meant to love you and show you love. We know the Bible says to love thy neighbor, but some people will hide envy, hate, and resentment with the facade of love just to win you over. You must guard your heart at all times because you are too precious. Protecting your heart, your surroundings, the things you hear and see - will help you love yourself more because you are blocking every negative thing from altering your self-perception.
Self-Care is the Best Care
Sometimes we may not feel the best or think we look the best. We are human and have every right to feel that way, but we have to take care of ourselves. It's the simple things - like take a bath, comb your hair, put some chap-stick on, wear deodorant, brush your teeth etc. You do things to make yourself feel good. You're going through a breakup? Put your best outfit on and beat your face - because you deserve it. Get a manicure and a pedicure if you can - because you deserve it. Go shopping and buy your dream pair of shoes - because you deserve it. You deserve it all! My mom always told me to look my best at all times - even if I do not feel like it because throwing on some lipstick and your favorite pearls can make you feel better than you truly are. It is all about perception! Love yourself for who you and treat yourself if you need a reminder of your worth!
Life with Purpose
Sometimes you may not know your purpose because God has not made it crystal clear to you yet - but if you walk every day with your head held high, your shoulders back, and your chest up - you will start becoming the person you desire. Every decision you make, every step you take, every pathway you go down - do it intentionally.
"I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me" Philippians 4:13
Whatever you want to achieve in life, whoever you desire to be, however you choose to make those decisions - do it for yourself! Believe in yourself, walk with confidence, and know the promises and plans that God has for you! Your self-love can get you through hard times like nobody else can because you endure the strength and beauty of Christ!
